Hi everyone, Gatts here, and are you getting tired of using the same old sprites? Well I had found a way to rip the sprites from RPG Maker VX, but as Stifu pointed out, there isn't a lot of them and they are kind of generic aren't they? =)

So today I'm going to show you how you can create and add VX sprites using a generator and Character Maker.

And just a warning, some of the images do get a bit big, so if you have a slow connection, you might want to heat up some popcorn...

---------------------------
Part 1: Building the sprites
---------------------------

First you need a a way to create the sprite, and guess what, there is a generator online. It's called famitsu's generator

I won't get too much into the generator, because we would lose track of the subject and it's better if you tried it. Trust me, it's very simple, since like chara EX, all you have to do is click on the images to add it to the sprite.

However, I did add a translation for most of the buttons so you know where to find everything. The biggest problem is there are two indexes: index1 is the section for the boys and index2 is for the girls, and no you don't have to type in the number on the bar to switch off. See that thing on the top that says Boy Girl? You can click on either to make the switch. Pretty convient eh? But now we're getting off topic, so make your guy (or girl) and move on.

---------------------------
Part 2: The insert
---------------------------

Let's call this guy Jo Jo (a blantant KoDT reference, heh.) He's a guy looking for action, question is how can he get into your roster? This is where it takes a little bit of time and effort, so hold on to your er, hats folks and I'll walk you though it as best as I can.

First open up Character Maker and two files: the image you just made and to VX rip unless you know how to put it together, in which you can just start making your own sheet, but since the directions are a pain in the ass, we'll use the rip and you'll see why in a bit.

So Jo Jo is 2.png and chara.bmp is the VX rip. So first choose 2.png and right click on the top right Jo Jo sprite. Hold down right mouse button and move it so you are selecting the six images. See that giant box on the left? Six giant images of Jo Jo should show up if you are doing it right.

So if you hit the left button on the images, then it will paste the copied image onto it. So you could put Jo Jo on chara.bmp

"That's what I'm supposed to do right?"

No, no, NO! Heh.

Sorry, but if you do that then the image will try switch to the colors of the other image and it will look terrible. So you have to go the long way around.

This is what it will look like in case you are curious...

So remember those giant images of Jo Jo, well after you get them highlight (er, big) you go up Edit and then Select All or just just save bloody time, Ctrl-A. It will select the giant image and then go back to Edit and Copy or Ctrl-C respectively.

So now what?

Well go back to chara.bmp and highlight six blocks of a green section as you can see here and make sure the top area where Jo Jo was is nothing but green. And don't hit copy again or you will lose Jo Jo.

So chara.bmp should be up, so go up to Edit again and this time choose Paste (or Ctrl-V) and Jo Jo should show up in that giant box and looking quite normal. Remember that highlighted section? Well you can move it around now, and it should be a giant box. So choose an open spot and hit the left button on your mouse and now Jo Jo should be there.

---------------------------
Part 3: Finishing up
---------------------------

So as you can can see, there is way to many sprites for RPG Maker 95 to use and there is a white blob around him, so it's time to finish up the last steps for this project. =)

First let's get rid of the white box around him. Highlight him again like before you get the six huges images then choose the first color box which is green (AKA 0) and as you've guessed already, the main background. Grab the paint bucket and switch it to green. You might have to move the screen around to see if you got it all, and don't forget that there might be some isolayed white spots like between the legs that might be missed. Then go back to the sprite screen and make sure all of the select lines is surrounding all of the old Jo Jo sprite and hit the left mouse button. It should now look like this.

Now as you can see, you have too many. Well first, that whole midle row can go, since there's really no place for standing sprites. So now you have eigt sprites left, so what's left? Placing them, of course. No need for copying and pasting this time, well using the Ctrl commands anyway. You can copy a sprite by going over to a sprite and clicking the right moue button. You know it worked, because the big version of the sprite you chose should show up again. From there it's moving them until you have a complete set standing next to each other. But, yes there is one of thing here, you don't think it was going to be somewhat easy did you? =)

The sprites have to be put in a certain order for it to look right, so here how it works. And by the way, the boxes were borrowed from Extended ASCII Box Drawing Characters In HTML, so apologies in advance...

Or just use the other sets as an example. So now the final result should be this:

So there you go, I hope that you can use this to expand your ideas. Remember to keep creating!
